OUR DANCES:
The origen of the Ibicencan dance is not known, the dances are purely for courting, in which the man invites the woman to dance by means of a touch of the castanets. The most representative being “sa curta”, “sa llarga”, “sa filera” and “ses nou rodades” all of which have been declared as cultural interest inmaterial goods in June 2012.
When dancing one has to recognize the difference of the two existing rhythms, sa curta, the slow and paused rhythm with which one starts the dance and sa llarga with a much livelier rhythm.
“Sa curta” is the first dance it is usually danced by the eldest couple of the group or by the hosts. Once they have danced “sa curta” they change rhythms passing on to “sa llarga” a much livelier rhythm with the man making striking movements pretending to attract the dancers eyes.

“Sa filera” and “Ses nou rodades” deserve a special mention. These are dances especially for weddings. The first one is danced by the groom, bride and two of their friends.
“Ses nou rodades” is danced by the bride and groom at the end of the ceremony. The couple make symmetrical movements, moving away from each other then moving closer to each other until first there elbows touch and then there hands. During the dance the happy bride shows off her rings, gifts from the groom. The dance finishes with a “llarga” where the rest of the guests accompany the couple.
Other dances apart from “sa llarga” are: “sa palmera”, “sa giratomba”, “es canvi de parella”, “sa mola”, “es molí” and “sa llarga rodada”.
